Serial Number log for the earliest known 1962 Fender Jaguar

Hi everyone. This post is a continual work-in-progress post and documents the earliest known Fender Jaguar. Please feel free to contact me with any new information in regards to updating this serial number log.



  1. Serial number: 69006 .  9 hole guard, flat head pickup screws, sunburst, original case.  Earliest known serial number on a Fender Jaguar, previously owned and sold by myself, acting as JTKM STUDIO, shown below.

  2. Serial number: 70911, Burgundy Mist. I have not seen this in person. Located in Japan. 


  1. Serial number: 73047. Dakota Red, 9 hole green guard, pre-matching headstock, 1/62 pencil neck date, 61 pots. Located in Japan. I did try to purchase this one but it sold. Shown below.

  1. Serial number: 73106. Sunburst, 9 hole guard example. Seen on Reverb.

  2. Serial number: 73355. Sunburst, 9 hole guard, flat head pickup screws, all original. Owned and sold by myself, acting as JTKM STUDIO, shown below.

  3.  Serial number: 75036. Sunburst, 9 hole guard example.

  4. Serial number: 76553. Sunburst, 9 hole guard example.

  5. Serial number: 76590. Sunburst, 9 hole guard example.

  6. Serial number: 76865. Sunburst 9 hole guard, flat screw heads on pickups,  very rough condition with significant arm wear and a scar around the arm area. Located in Australia and shown below.

  7. Serial number: 76979. Sonic Blue, pre-matching headstock era, tortoise pickguard, flat head pickup screws, 9 hole guard. I cannot absolutely confirm if the finish is original, but from what I have seen this could well be original, shown below (case not original). I would have purchased this one if customer service had been better. I'll get it next time round.

  8. Serial number: 76981. Sherwood Green, I have not seen this guitar in person. Located in Japan.

  9. Serial number: 76968. Blue Metallic over Sunburst. Not a 9 hole guard but does have the flat head pickup screws, March 62 stamped neck date. I do not know if the finish is original or if it's even a Fender colour, I avoid sparkle and one-off finishes at all costs. Shown below.

  10. Serial Number : 76989. Sonic Blue refinish, 9 hole guard, slab board with latest neck date (April 62) I've seen with a 9 hole guard.

  11. Serial number: 77094. 9 hole guard, Candy Apple Red refinish.

  12. Serial number: 77233. 9 hole guard, Sunburst.

  13. Serial number: 77302. Dakota Red, 9 hole guard, matching headstock (one of the first), March 62 pencil neck date, updated grounding with drilled hole from tremolo to control cavity and other ground wire added. Shown below.

  14. Serial number: 77318. 9 hole guard, Sunburst, added ground wire, replaced pots. 2/62 pencil neck date with interesting "2" indented into base of neck. Shown below.

  15. Serial number: 78193. Sunburst, 9 hole guard. Replaced input Jack. Shown below.
